Students, Please share this information with your parents.

Parents, attached is an important letter relating to the upcoming PARCC/CMAS Assessments. A number of parents have contacted me about "opting out" of the assessments. Please read the letter carefully as the Colorado State Board of Education just made a change to accommodate parents wishing to refuse for their students to participate in the state assessments.

The essence of the change is:

1) Schools cannot negatively consequence parents (or their students) for refusing for their students to participate in PARCC/CMAS.

2) Schools will no longer be punished in the accountability process if they don't meet the 95% participation rate for the PARCC/CMAS.

3) Schools cannot encourage students to opt out of testing.

4) If parents choose to opt their students out of testing, the school must document this.

Because this was a last minute change and the assessments start soon, parents that wish to choose to opt their student out of the state testing must let us know ASAP for planning purposes.

Please read the attached notice for more information and for the Parent Refusal form.

This information was also mailed by postal mail on February 23, 2015.
