MVNWRLearning Live- March 5th 12:30-3:00
Location: Meet at OLA 345 E.Prospect Ave. Monte Vista, CO and take mini-bus to the Monte Vista Wildlife Refuge.

Come and enjoy learning about bird migration and adaptations as we visit the Monte Vista Wildlife Refuge. We will have a chance to do some amazing  bird watching seeing Sand Hill Cranes and many other bird species on their way North to nesting areas.

Our time at the Refuge will involve a fun activity that demonstrates the challenges birds have during the their annual migrations. Bird watching during our trip will be an opportunity to see a variety of birds and observe their adaptations. Adaptations are the features or behaviors that birds have that help them survive. Adaptations that we see will be part of our bird watching discussion.

You will need the following equipment for our afternoon at the Refuge:

  • Good walking shoes or boots- there may be snow on the ground.

  • Dress in layers and have a warm jacket. Springtime wind can be really cold.

  • Drinking water.

  • Hat and gloves

  • Binoculars/cameras for bird watching with bird identification books if you have them.

We will be outdoors for most of our time at the Refuge.

We will be on a National Wildlife Refuge so removing anything from the Refuge is not allowed.

Please contact me at rogerd@monte.k12.co.us or call the school at 719.852.2212 if you are planning on participating in this great opportunity. I'm looking forward to our afternoon.
