Each week, it is going to be my goal to help students with certain aspects of their educational path! Today's tip comes from many students expressing the need for tips and tricks on this subject.
PROCRASTINATION: The act of delaying or postponing something.
Effects of Procrastination:
1) Mental Health Effects - Increased stress and anxiety, depression, feelings of guilt and shame, difficulty making decisions.
2) Academic and Professional Effects - Poor academic or job performance, difficulty concentrating, reduced motivation, increased distractability, reduced productivity.
3) Physical Health Effects - Increased risk of chronic disease, sleep distrubances, increased fatigue.
4) Social Effects - Strained relationships, social isolation
Steps to Help Overcome Procrastination
1) Break Schoolwork or Tasks Into Smaller Steps - Start with one small task to begin to feel the successes. Split larger assignments or tasks in to manageable, bite sized pieces!
2) Eliminate Distractions - Remove distractions such as phones, noise, or other tabs on your computer. Find a quite place that you can work.
3) Set Goals - Creation of goals oftentimes helps us avoid procrastination. Setting small goals and crossing them off of your list feels good and shows us that success is possible!
4) Time Management - Setting aside time for just schoolwork is important. Using your time effectively helps you chip away at requirements so that they do not build up overtime!
5) Prioritize Tasks - Categorize your required assignments and tasks by urgency and importance.
