April 20, 2017 (Earth Day) will be a school wide Day of Service. We are asking all students to participate in a parent-approved service project to benefit their community that day (clean-up efforts at a local park, volunteering at the local food bank, serving meals at a homeless shelter, doing chores for an elderly neighbor, performing music in a nursing home, etc.)

Our office/building will be closed that day as all school staff will participate in a service project at Great Sand Dunes National Park. Area students are invited to attend, but can plan their own-parent approved service project for that day if they are unable to join us at the park.

The most important reason to do a service project is that we are all responsible for our communities and can each make a worthwhile contribution to making our communities a better place. But don't forget that volunteer service is an important part of college application resumes. Increasingly, graduation requirements call for volunteer service hours on the part of students.

Here are two important links:

In addition to completing the online registration form, please bring a completed NPS Volunteer Form and Student Permission Slip for each participant.  The bus will leave the DELTA Center at 8:00am and return around 4:00pm. OLA Parents who wish to drive their student to the dunes should plan to arrive at the park at 9:00am.

Participants should bring comfortable shoes, a jacket, layered clothing, a hat, a water bottle, and (if they have them) work gloves. We will be outside most of the time.

(DELTA Students pick up a registration packet in the office)
