Monte Vista On-Line Academy 8th grade student Lola S received 2nd place for the Junior Division individual documentary category at the San Luis Valley regional History Day fair held on Saturday. As a result, Lola has been invited to attend the State History Day fair in April. Congratulations Lola, this is an
amazing and well-deserved achievement!
The theme of this
year's History Day is "Rights & Responsibilities". Students could
choose any time period to research as long as they focused on that
theme. Lola focused on the Old Kingdom ancient Egyptian goddess Ma'at
and how belief systems surrounding Ma'at were progressive
in regards to women's rights, compared to other civilizations that
existed around the same time in history, while also noting that there
were unique responsibilities that came with those rights.
Students could choose from the following submission categories: Paper, Exhibit, Documentary, Performance or Website.
Lola chose to create a documentary on her topic which may be viewed HERE.
She was also required to submit a title page, process paper, and
annotated bibliography. Lola will have
the opportunity to further refine her project for submission to the
State fair in April. I know everyone here is just as proud of Lola and
her accomplishment as we are -- well done Lola!
