Earth Day at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. This service project was developed a number of years ago by science teacher Roger Dawson. Students planted trees around the parking lot and completed erosion control activities. Many of the trees planted in past years are doing well. The trees are transplanted from other areas of the park. The the rangers served the students lunch and the students had a little time to explore this wonderful place. This year's group was a great bunch and did an excellent job.
"Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago."
