The purpose of English is to experience hands-on the beauty of language, and to understand the spirit, creativity and utility that makes a language great, and to make that spirit and creativity an advantage to you when you use the language—whether for art’s sake or for practical applications. In this class you will participate in four book reports which follow a non-traditional discussion format that emphasizes your reading level, experience and interests. You get to choose what you read from the endless possibilities of American Literature. It's easy, and you actually will be surprised at how much you learn, not just about what you read but also about the literary concepts understood by authors. There are also a few short enrichment activities to introduce you to just a few of the America's great authors. Both you and your teacher will participate in the Mastery Learning process throughout the class, which means your skills will grow gradually and logically, and you will never be left stranded or stuck without help. It also means if you finish the class there is no way you won't get a good grade.
