Overview: Students explore a national park and decide on a landform feature or area of the park to represent with 3D modeling. Through guided research they learn about the history and significance of the park and create a written narrative (similar to what is often found with museum exhibits) to accompany their 3D model of the feature or area of the park they chose.
Skills and Knowledge to be Gained:
Using TouchTerrain to make initial 3D files of specific landforms or areas
Using FlashPrint 5 to “slice” their initial file into a final format the 3D printer can read
Printing 3D models with filament based printer
Painting 3D models to represent rock and vegetation
Research skills
Descriptive writing skills (with a focus on creating interesting, informative, and concise narratives)
Oral presentation skills
